I found this great Italian Novelty yarn during a shopping spree in Colorado and knew that I just had to have it for some future project.

Most of my handwoven designs come to me as passing thoughts. So, when it comes time to sit down and warp my loom, the main thrust of my concept usually goes out the window and one fragment of my original thought remains and that is where I begin.
The same held true with this scarf. As I sat down to sley the reed, beginning with a luscious wool/silk yarn, I immediately knew that the novelty yarn was going to give this scarf the snap it deserved.
This is a more narrow scarf than I usually weave but it just seemed sleek and appropriate.

Not everyone can pull off these colors but I just could not resist them. Early spring, after the long cold winters in the heartland, I was so inspired by the colors of the prairie grasses springing up all over the rolling hills of Iowa that I just had to capture them the only way I knew how. I can't paint, I'm not the best photographer, so I "Dye". I went into my dye studio and began mixing colors. "Prairie Grasses" is the end result of that journey.
100% silk on silk ( warp and weft) hand dyed 5/2 yarn.
Since this is a hand dyed piece of Art, no two shawls are alike.

Three forths of the warp is from 100% Buffalo Gold yarn while the remaining one forth is warped with some beautiful and unusual novelty yarn purchased in Jerome,AZ from Knit 1, Bead 2. The entire weft is 100% Buffalo Gold yarn. Since I was very amused to find this amazing novelty yarn in Jerome and in keeping with the reputation once give the Jerome's ladies, this scarf is appropriately named "Madame Buffalo" $265
